Advancing Surgical Expertise at CBC Health Services, Mutengene
Delivering on shared promises: sharpening suture knowledge and technique for physicians and nurses in Cameroon's South West Region.

This is the story of how two shared promises, B. Braun’s commitment to Sharing Expertise and Gima-Bambot’s commitment to Empowering Healthcare Providers, came together to strengthen surgical practice in one of Cameroon’s underserved communities.
Headline outcomes:
- Comprehensive suture portfolio training delivered
- Physicians and nurses trained
- Refined suturing techniques
- Improved surgical quality of care
The Challenge
At CBC Health Services in Mutengene, surgical teams work with a wide and evolving range of sutures and needles, absorbable and non-absorbable, monofilament and braided, each in different gauges and needle configurations, suited to different tissues and procedures. For physicians and nurses without systematic exposure to this full portfolio, this plurality can easily become a source of confusion rather than a resource.
The risk is a familiar one in underserved regions: without structured knowledge of each suture’s properties and appropriate use, selection can default to habit rather than clinical indication. A suture chosen out of familiarity rather than fit can affect wound closure, healing time and, ultimately, patient outcomes. Refining this decision-making, and the technique that follows it, was the challenge B. Braun and Gima-Bambot Healthcare Ltd. set out to address together.

The Solution

The B. Braun Group and Gima-Bambot Healthcare Ltd. joined forces to deliver impactful, hands-on training to the surgical teams at CBC Health Services.
The solution combined:
A deep dive into B. Braun’s comprehensive suture portfolio, covering the properties, indications and appropriate clinical use of each suture type available to the team.
Practical demonstration across surgical procedures, showing physicians and nurses how each suture performs in real surgical contexts, not just in theory.
Hands-on technique refinement, giving participants the confidence to apply correct suturing technique consistently, not only the correct suture.
Delivered as a joint initiative, the training reflected the two organizations’ shared dedication to advancing healthcare in underserved communities. By pairing product knowledge with technique, the training was built to translate directly into safer, more consistent surgical practice, not simply to inform.
The Implementation
The training moved from portfolio knowledge to applied clinical confidence in a structured sequence:
Portfolio walkthrough. B. Braun specialists presented the full range of sutures used at CBC Health Services, clarifying the distinct properties and appropriate applications of each.
Procedure-based demonstration. Trainers showed how suture choice varies across different surgical procedures, giving physicians and nurses a practical, procedure-linked framework for selection.
Hands-on suturing practice. Gima-Bambot and B. Braun trainers worked directly with participants to refine suturing technique, reinforcing correct handling alongside correct selection.
The Results
The training delivered a measurable strengthening of surgical knowledge and practice at CBC Health Services:
Physicians and nurses trained across B. Braun’s comprehensive suture portfolio. Refined suturing techniques, applied directly during the hands-on sessions. Clearer, more confident decision-making in suture selection across procedures. Improved surgical quality of care for patients treated at the facility.
By combining portfolio knowledge with technique, the results were built to be applied at every future procedure, not confined to the training room.

The Impact
For patients at CBC Health Services in Mutengene, and across the wider South West Region, this training means surgical teams equipped to make the right suture choice and apply it with confidence, procedure after procedure. In an underserved community, that consistency in surgical quality of care can make a lasting difference to patient outcomes.
Because the training invested in both knowledge and hands-on skill, its impact endures well beyond the session itself. Physicians and nurses who understand the full suture portfolio, and who have practised the technique to match, carry that expertise into every subsequent procedure they perform.
Delivered together with the B. Braun Group, the project reflects the shared commitment of both organizations, B. Braun’s promise of Sharing Expertise and Gima-Bambot’s promise of Empowering Healthcare Providers, to advancing healthcare in Cameroon’s most underserved communities.
This is one of several capacity-building initiatives through which Gima-Bambot MedTech is strengthening clinical practice across Cameroon and Africa.
